Firstly, in the morning, i went to the church with lit soo. A singaporen in Penn nursing doing PHD. we went to Renewal Presbyterian Church: 48th & spruce street.
http://www.emmanuelchurch.net/ we went for the 12 o clock service. cos lit soo say tat there are more youth at that time.
lit soo is from new creation church and in Philadelphia she usually attends the one in Penn. but she say she don mind trying other church. so we went to the one quite near my place. the church is nice. is very korea. there are many korean i guess. more than half. so it actually feels quite like singapaore. as they speak el and have black hair
the service includes P&W, prayer, announcements, offering, testimony, sermon then song of response. the sermon is good! think the pastor is a korean also. the posters and signboards have korean words. the sermon is on David and Goliath. (1 samuel 17) i always view this story as a child who overcome a giant. God can do anything, he can use a small boy to overcome a giant. but this sermon brought my attention to another side of the story. it can also be viewed as God's glory through a boy of faith and a boy who give all glory to God.
at that time the Israelites are dismayed and terrified by the 9 feet giant. however David said "Who is the uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God." (verse 26) He he not forgotten about the Lord.
He has to go through 3 obstacles/discouragement
his brother, Eliab said "why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the desert? i know you are conceited you are and how wicked your heart is: you came down only to watch the battle" (verse 28) he actually blamed David for leaving the sheep and accuse him that he came down to watch the battle.
next is king saul, he said "you are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him: you are only a boy, and he has been fighting man from his youth"
lastly, we have got Goliath the giant.
he gives all glory to God. all his achievement.he said this to Saul: "The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine."
apart from God's power and might being shown through David. we must also not forget that David is a humble boy with faith who believe that God will deliver him:) God does not use him just like tat.
OK! so this is wat i learnt from the sermon.
after church i went home, eat, slack and then went out. we went to the art museum and the park. the museum close at 5, so we onli got like 15 mins. we might be gg back again if we have the time.
Photos!
on our way to the museum. we saw singapore flag and got really excited! haha
but now it looks like a Indonesia flag.
The Museum is at the far end
city hall and center city

this one is really funny. they just finished a marathon and then they still have leftover food and cereal biscuits.
so they are giving it out to ppl. if not they will throw it away also.
so the typical singaporean Kiasuism we took alot of packets. think about 60 packets?

XX took alot also.

Meijiao overjoyed with free food!
trying out the food. not bad

we got some breads also. this is our breakfast for 4 days?
but the best part it that, after taking so many packets we realised that they are expired. haha. but we still brought it home and ate it hoping that it is not spoiled
